(revised 01/30/15)

Well we endured the very popular “The Bible” TV miniseries, and now “The Son of God” movie. I wonder how many evangelicals have been deceived into believing Roma Downey has become a born again Christian. Truth is, Downey is still a New Ager, in spite of many public statements by her and hubby Mark Burnett that they are Christians.

It angers me when New Agers are so deceptive, deluding born again Christians into thinking they are Christians (Oprah Winfrey and other New Agers are also trying to deceive us in this way). Following is a March 2014 First for Women article I came across with New Age quotes from Roma Downey. (I realize there may be copyright issues concerning the posting of this article – for now at least, I am leaving the article online primarily for other discernment ministries to access and quote.) Here’s the article:

Downey001
Downey002
Downey003

In the above March 2014 issue of First for Women magazine, Downey said, “I think we all have a responsibility to see God in each other. That’s how I’ve raised my children – that no matter whose face they look into, they’re looking into the face of God, who’s in all of us.”
(First for Women magazine, 03/31/14, p. 45)

Other New Age buzzwords in the above article,  quoting Downey:

“light, peace and happiness”
“doing work that spreads the message of God’s love”
“rituals she relies on to stay centered”
[candlelight] “promotes mindfulness”
[I light a candle and it] “calls in the light”

Also, in the article Downey says she is reading the book The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. Hoffman sounds New Age to me. Even if Hoffman isn’t New Age, Downey apparently likes her occultic themes. Check out this info from Wikipedia:

“Many of her works fall into the genre of magic realism and contain elements of magic, irony, and non-standard romances and relationships.”

FOR FURTHER RESEARCH

Apparently Downey is a darling of the following yoga website, which lists many of her online video interviews about “The Son of God” movie.

You will find that some of my blogs are password protected. Most of these blogs have to deal with very personal issues. For example, a list of individuals in the EFCI (Evangelical Friends Church International) who are promulgating Spiritual Formation.

Some readers have gotten very upset about these blogs, saying they have been hurt by my naming names. I feel this information is important to get out – yet I also understand this can cause hurt feelings.

As a compromise for now, I have made these blogs password protected.  To read password protected blogs on my blogsite, simply type “Password request” in the Comment box below (which is private), then hit “Post Comment”. I will write back to you with the password.

This will sound like bragging, I’m sure. But I want to let our readers know this blogsite is getting more active and growing. To whoever is reading these blogs, seeing WordPress statistics such as the following motivates me to keep blogging:

Between 04/20/11 and 04/28/11, our blogs were read 727 times. At this rate, in the next 365 days, our blogs will be read over 30,000 times.

This makes me feel very good that readers are finding these blogs and finding help from them. To you all, whoever you are, thank you again for allowing us to minister to you in writing. God bless you – Dave Mosher

P.S.: To make sure readers find your blogs, make sure you provide your blogs with many categories and tags. I am still learning this myself…

NOTE – Regarding the list of schools below, I hope to do research on each school and “expand” the links. When you click on a link that has a note such as “I have revised this link”, you will be led to a separate page on this blogsite that has a number of articles documenting the school’s involvement with Spiritual Formation and Emerging/Emergent teachings.
——————————————————————
Tragically, it is becoming more and more difficult to find biblically sound Christian colleges and seminaries.  Most Christian schools we have come across are teaching about Spiritual Formation and the Emerging/Emergent Church movements. However, some schools are pushing these views more than others. Lighthouse Trails has provided a list of schools they are aware of, that we as born again Christians should avoid.

My reasons for providing this entire list are twofold:

1) Like Lighthouse Trails, I want to warn readers to avoid these schools.

2) I am personally familiar with about a dozen of these schools. I hope to do more research on these schools, providing the results here.

I have condensed this list slightly, removing some of the links such as the “alphabetical table of contents” and the “return to top” links. I am also adding some links as I locate them. The original list from Lighthouse Trails can be found at:

http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/Colleges.htm

Following is their recently updated list (revised by me):

Christian Colleges That Promote Contemplative

Also go to the school’s site and type in particular terms such as spiritual formation, Nouwen, lectio divina, which will help you find the documentation you need.

Excerpt from
The Emerging Church:
Ancient Faith for a Post-Modern World

“Among the many authors to pay attention to are Vintage Faith pastor Dan Kimball, author of The Emerging Church and Emerging Worship; Drew University professor Leonard Sweet (Postmodern Pilgrims; A Is for Abductive); youth pastor Tony Jones (Postmodern Youth Ministry; Read, Think, Pray, Live); Robert E. Webber, author of The Younger Evangelicals and Ancient-Future Faith: Rethinking Evangelicalism for a Postmodern World; Spencer Burke, Sally Morgenthaler-the list is far too extensive to include all the recommended authors here. For the most thorough collection of postmodern resources that I know of, go to http://www.agts.edu, click on ‘Free Resources,’ and then click on the folder labeled ‘Emerging Culture/Emerging Church.’ That will give you access to a PDF file of 1,700-plus resources amassed by Assemblies of God professor Earl Creps, a man for whom many in the emerging church movement give thanks daily.”

Criswell College and the Emerging Church Movement?
The Criswell Theological Review, a publication of Criswell College, devotes an entire issue to discussing the Emerging Church movement.
In the Spring 2006 edition of the Criswell Theological Review (a publication of Criswell College), articles written by Emerging Church authors and an interview with Brian McLaren leave one to wonder just what exactly CTR editor, Alan Street, had in mind when he put this issue of the newsletter together. Correctly recognizing Brian McLaren as a leading representative of the Emerging Church indicts the movement. One can only wonder at this point if Criswell College (named after Dr. W.A. Criswell – Rick Warren’s mentor), is heading towards Emergent.Related Information:
